St. Francis Xavier University Jazz Group
Kenji Omae (saxophone) has been described as “a super-articulate virtuoso” (The Ottawa Citizen) and “may be the most exciting tenor saxophonist to emerge in Canada in recent years” (The WholeNote). He has released four albums of original music as a leader.
Jake Hanlon (guitar) has imprinted himself on the east coast Canadian jazz scene as a composer, performer and educator. He has earned two ECMA nominations for Jazz Recording of the Year for the albums “Follow” (2012) and “Autumn Song” (2015).
Ronald J. Hynes (bass) has performed and recorded with a wide range of artists, including Heather Rankin & Jimmy Rankin (The Rankin Family), Lennie Gallant, Dave Gunning, Charlie A’Court, Ben Caplan, Hey Rosetta! and many more. He plays regularly with a variety of jazz/experimental musical groups in Halifax, most notably every Wednesday for Jazz Night at The Local, with Damien Moynihan and Silvio Pupo.
Ty MacEachern (drums) is a performer, composer, and music educator who has collaborated with some of Canada’s top jazz musicians and performed at renowned venues across the Maritimes. Ty is a recent graduate of StFX, where he participated in masterclasses with world-renowned jazz artists such as Joel Frahm and Norma Winston.
